Deputy Registrar
As a certified VDR, you are authorized to help eligible Texans register to vote. This is one of the most direct ways to support fair & accessible elections in your community.
Once certified, you’ll assist voters by:
- Help Texans receive & complete voter registration applications
- Ensure forms are accurate & issue a receipt
- Deliver completed applications to the county voter registrar

County Poll Workers
Counties rely on trained poll workers and election judges to keep polling places open and running smoothly. A strong pool of workers helps prevent delays, cover absences, and ensure voters are supported on Election Day and during early voting.
Anyone age 16 or older who is interested in helping democracy work at the local level can serve as a poll worker.

Election Judges
Election Judges manage polling places on Election Day.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the polling location
- Manging clerks hours & activities
- Preserves order & prevents breaches of peace.
Election Clerks & Bilingual Election Clerks
Election Clerks assist voters & support Election Judges throughout the day.
If 5% or more of residents in a precinct speak Spanish or another language, counties are required to provide bilingual assistance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Checking in voters
- Answering questions
- Setting up & testing voting equipment
- Issuing ballots & resolving voter issues
Early Voting Ballot Board
The Early Voting Ballot Board processes ballots voted by mail and reviews provisional ballots to ensure they meet legal requirements.
Signature Verification Committee
This committee compares voter signatures on mail ballot applications and carrier envelopes to confirm the ballot was submitted by the voter.
Each county provides training on their specific election equipment & procedures. No prior experience required.

Election Protection
Poll Monitors
Election Protection Poll Monitors are nonpartisan volunteers who help ensure voters have a fair and accessible voting experience.
Poll monitors stay at least
100 feet outside polling locations and are available to answer voters’ questions about the voting process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Check polling locations for accessibility & proper signage
- Observe & document potential issues affecting voters
- Report concerns to county election officials & the Election Protection Hotline
Training is provided.
No prior experience required.
Poll Watcher are individuals appointed by a candidate, political party, or political committee to observe voting and ballot-counting activities in Texas.
